The tipping point

I was originally put onto this book by Helen Wood, one of the designers in a team I headed up in a previous business. Thanks Helen.

The ‘Tipping Point’ by Malcom Gladwell is a really interesting analysis into the point at which different factors meet and create that magic moment where everything seems to just gel and success takes hold. Concepts, ideas, products, trends and social behaviours working together to create something that takes on its own life and flies.

There are many brands that you can call the point at which this happened and if we are able to influence or control any of these factors, could we create that ‘tipping point’? Therein lies the magic.

Strangely some of the best examples I can think of have actually been in clubland where you become part of a movement that suddenly just ‘clicks’ and there is a feeling of being part of something special, history in the making kind of stuff.
